About the Australian Copyright Council
Staff & governance
The Australian Copyright Council is an independent non-profit organisation, founded in 1968.
- Staff: We have 6 full-time and 4 part-time staff: 6 lawyers and 4 administrative staff.
- Affiliated organisations:
there are 23 organisations affiliated with the Copyright Council. They
are organisations whose members are copyright owners. The Council consults with these organisations when formulating a position on copyright policy issues.
- Board: the Copyright Council's board has up to 9 directors. Up to 7 are elected at the AGM and the remainder are appointed.

Our objectives
- assist creators and other copyright owners to exercise their rights effectively;
- raise awareness in the community generally about the importance of copyright;
- research and identify areas of copyright law which are inadequate or unfair;
- seek changes to law and practice to enhance the effectiveness and fairness of copyright;
- foster cooperation amongst bodies representing creators and owners of copyright.
What we do
We provide information, advice and training about copyright in Australia. We also produce publications, do research, and make submissions on copyright policy issues.How to contact us

How we are funded
We are a non-profit organisation.
We receive substantial general funding from the Australia Council.
The balance of our income is principally from our training program, publication sales, affiliation fees and consultancy fees.
