Uses controlled by copyright owners

The uses controlled by a copyright owner vary according to the type of material. For nearly all copyright material, the owner controls the following:

Other uses controlled by copyright owners for certain material are summarised in the following table.

The rights of broadcasters in television and radio broadcasts, and of publishers in typographical arrangements of editions of works such as books and newspapers, are more limited. Broadcasters control the rights to make an audio or audiovisual recording of the broadcast, copy a recording of the broadcast, and rebroadcast or communicate the broadcast. Publishers control the right to make a facsimile (exact) copy of the typographical arrangement in an edition.

In some cases cases, importation of articles containing copyright material is controlled by the copyright owner.
