Review of private use exceptions for photos and films
Copying photographs and films in a different format for private use. Review of sections 47J and 100AA of the Copyright Act 1968
The Attorney-General’s Department is inviting submissions on the operation of the private use copying provisions in the Copyright Act that allow individuals to copy photographs and videotapes. The Minister is required to review these provisions by 31 March 2008.
Sections 47J and 110AA of the Act were introduced by the Copyright Amendment Act 2006 and commenced on 11 December 2006. The key issues in the review are whether or not the provisions are achieving their objectives and whether or not there are policy reasons for amendments.
The closing date for submissions is 29 February 2008.
