Government considering ratification to UNESCO Convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
In July 2008, the Commonwealth Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts began consultations with key organisations about whether Australia should ratify the UNESCO Convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The consultations result from the Government’s 2007 election commitment to consider ratification of the treaty.
Views on whether or not Australia should ratify are due by 5 September 2008.
