Chris Creswell
Chris Creswell was head of the Copyright Law Branch in the Australian Attorney-General’s Department for over 12 years in 1981-1984 and 1988-1998 and was then Copyright Law Consultant to the Department till May 2008. In those roles he was responsible for advising the Australian Government on major changes to the Australian Copyright Act, including amendments on moral rights, parallel importation, protection of computer software, educational statutory licences, journalists’ and film directors’ copyright, the Copyright Tribunal and performers’ rights. He was a member of the Copyright Law Review Committee for several reports to the Government, including those on computer software protection, journalists’ copyright, conversion damages, the Copyright Tribunal and copyright and contract. He represented Australia at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) diplomatic conferences on copyright in 1996 and 2000 and at meetings of the WIPO Copyright Standing Committee since then.
