Sabiene Heindl
Sabiene Heindl is the General Manager of Music Industry Piracy Investigations Pty Ltd (MIPI). MIPI is an organisation which provides anti-piracy investigative and intellectual property rights enforcement related services to the Australian recording and music publishing industries. MIPI acts on behalf of the major record companies and music publishers and their Australian subsidiaries.
Sabiene has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and a Bachelor of International Business.
Sabiene was formerly a Senior Associate in the Communications, Media & Technology Group at Allens Arthur Robinson in Sydney. She commenced at Allens in 1997 and specialized in intellectual property and competition law litigation.
Her experience included:
- advising on protecting intellectual property rights;
- intellectual property infringement actions in the Federal Court of Australia;
- anti-piracy work and Australian Customs seizures for luxury brand owners;
- commercial aspects of intellectual portfolio management;
- competition law litigation - from 1999 to 2001, she represented one of the record companies in litigation commenced by the ACCC regarding parallel imported sound recordings; and
- consumer protection matters.
In 2004, while on leave of absence from Allens, she worked at the European Commission in Brussels in DG Competition. Sabiene advised on intellectual property related competition issues, including issues regarding copyright collecting societies, music industry mergers and broadcasting and media issues for the Olympic Games and Football World Cup.
