Paul Reekie
With a Business Administration degree from the University of Western Ontario in Canada, Paul came to Australia in 1972 on holiday and started a publishing career that has continued ever since: McGraw Hill, Sydney, 1972–76; Copp Clark Pitman, Toronto, 1976–81; Barron’s Publishing, Sydney 1981-82; Pitman Publishing, Sydney and Melbourne, 1982–87; CSIRO Books & Journals 1987–95, and CSIRO PUBLISHING 1995 – present.
CSIRO PUBLISHING is a business enterprise within the CSIRO producing journals, books, multimedia and magazines for the research community not just CSIRO. It has been operating in the digital space to market its book products and deliver e-content for journals internationally since 1996.
During his time in CSIRO, Paul has been involved in a range of copyright issues including developing policy and procedures to protect the business, a major revision of CSIRO’s copyright policies in 1999, the development of CSIRO’s repository to capture digital content and the CSIRO position if relation to the Google Book Agreement. He is currently part of a team working on the Organisation’s open access position in relation to data and published outputs. He brings a unique commercial perspective to rights management balanced by the public good pressures and expectations of the CSIRO.
