* We are running 4 of the 6 sessions in Brisbane on Thursday 10 August, and all 6 sessions in October: Introduction to copyright; Using text and images; Using the internet; and TV, radio and video.

Who this training is for

If you work in an educational institution* (including a library in an educational institution), these sessions are for you.

(*Certain organisations are 'educational institutions' for the purposes of the Copyright Act. These include schools, universities, TAFE colleges, and many private colleges and registered training organisations. Contact us if you are unsure.

 

The program


Thursday

S06*11 Introduction to copyright

9:30am to 10:30am ($70)
This session is for people attending later sessions who are new to copyright or want to refresh their knowledge of general copyright principles. The session covers issues such as what is protected by copyright and when permission is needed, to provide a context for other sessions dealing with specific applications of copyright law. It is not intended to be a stand-­alone session.

S06*12 Educational institutions: using text & images

11:00am to 1:00pm ($100)
(booked out for Sydney 27 July, but we may repeat: click here if you may be interested)

  • copying from books, journals
  • copying print music under the Copyright Act
  • uploading to intranets
  • emailing to students
  • warning notices on copying equipment
  • moral rights obligations

    S06*13 Educational institutions: using the Internet

    2:00pm to 3:00pm ($80)

    • applying the educational use provisions to the internet
    • implied licences to use internet material
    • linking and framing
    • how to avoid authorising infringement
    • risk management

    S06*14 Managing digital licences 

    3:30pm to 4:30pm ($80)

    • use of subscription databases, CD ROMs and software
    • negotiating licences for digital resources
    • problem clauses
    • managing licences
    • relationship between contract and copyright
    This session is for anyone who deals with licences for online or other digital material, not just those in educational institutions.

    Friday

    Note: The following sessions will not run in Canberra.


    S06*15 Educational institutions: TV, radio and video

    9:30am to 10:30am ($80)

    • recording TV and radio programs: Screenrights licence
    • online and email delivery of recorded programs
    • what you can do with videos, films and DVDs
    • student use of audiovisual material
    • compliance tips

    S06*16 Schools: music & performances

    11:00am to 1:00pm ($100)
    This session is only for schools. It is not relevant to tertiary institutions nor to private music teachers.

    • copying print music under the Copyright Act
    • copying print music under the AMCOS licence
    • the AMCOS/ARIA licence
    • playing live and recorded music
    • staging, filming & recording concerts and musicals


    Refreshments

    We provide light refreshments between sessions, but not lunch.

    Free book offer

    If you individually attend four training sessions and give us a completed feedback form, we'll send you one of our books for free (title of your choice). We'll send your book as soon as we've received your feedback form and payment for the training.

    Bookings & cancellations

    Bookings: Please book as early as possible so we can confirm your place and advise you of any changes to advertised details.
    Cancellations & refunds: We refund 100% of the fee if you cancel 4 or more working days before the training session, and 50% if you cancel 1 to 3 working days before (but not if you cancel on the day).
    Non-attendance: If you register for a training session but do not attend, we may invoice you for the fee unless you cancel 4 or more working days before the training session.
