Who this training is for

If you work in a Commonwealth, State or Territory government department or agency (including their libraries), this training is for you.

If you work in a government-related organisation that is not a government department, find out if your organisation is covered by the government provisions in the Copyright Act before registering for the training.

This training is not for people who work in local government, as local governments are not covered by the ‘government’ provisions in the Copyright Act. If you work in local government, our general training or our training for libraries may be helpful to you.

If you work in an educational institution, our sessions for educational institutions will be more relevant.

The program (Tuesday)

S06*04 Introduction to copyright

9:30am to 10:30am ($70)
This session is for those attending later sessions who are either new to copyright or want to refresh their knowledge of general copyright principles. The session covers issues such as what is protected by copyright, who owns copyright, when permission is needed and how long copyright lasts. The session provides a context for the sessions dealing with specific applications of copyright law. It is not intended as a stand-alone session.

    S06*05 Governments & copyright

    11:00am to 1:00pm ($100)

    • the special rules for government use of copyright material
    • copying, scanning and communicating text and other material
    • using the internet, software and CD ROMs
    • clearances and moral rights for government-created material
    • managing copyright owned by the government
    • relevant policies and proposed changes

    S06*06 Websites & copyright

(This session has SOLD OUT for Sydney on 25 July, but we are re-running it on 5 September)

    2:00pm to 4:00pm ($100)
    • identifying copyright issues
    • getting clearances
    • liability for infringing material – any safe harbours?
    • links and linking
    • managing copyright compliance issues
    • what blanket licences are available
    • dealing with web developers
    • ongoing rights in a site: developer or proprietor?
This session is relevant to anyone involved in designing, creating or maintaining websites, not just for government employees.

    Refreshments

We provide light refreshments between the morning sessions, but not lunch.
