This 90 minute session is a thorough overview of Australian copyright law specifically for librarians, archivists, and gallery and museum curators. In this session, we will cover all the essentials including; what is copyright, what it protects and how, copyright ownership and licensing, general and collection-specific copyright exceptions, copyright infringement and managing risk, moral rights and moral rights infringement. This session will also take you through the recent amendments made to the Copyright Act that impact libraries and cultural collections. Attendance of this session is highly recommended to have a grounded understanding for the remaining sessions.

This 90 minute session will take librarians, archivists, and curators through the copyright issues around typical activities from managing and using your collection to dealing with clients. Prior attendance at Copyright Essentials for Librarians, Archivists & Curators is strongly recommended. Topics covered include; applying copyright exceptions to digitise and manage your collection, copying and supplying material for client, promoting your institution on websites and social media, film screenings, Story Time, exhibitions, and other public events, practical tips for copyright risk management online and offline
